Every offering begins in the body.
Whether we are drafting a grant, reading each other's work, or writing something new, we start by arriving: breathing, centering, and noticing what is already known before we reach for language.
Writing the Work: Artist Statement & Grant Writing Intensive
Group workshop · 3 hours · online & in person
A body-based, intuition-led writing intensive for artists who are tired of describing their work in someone else's voice. Using a centering practice organized around length, width, depth, and center, we move from the body to the page: clarifying core intentions, drafting statements and proposals, and practicing language that is precise without being performative. Between sessions, participants pair up for a partner exchange, writing an artist statement for one another as a gift. You leave with drafts, reusable worksheets, and a clearer sense of how to speak about your work from center.
Write from Center
Group workshop · 10–15 participants · 2 hours · online & in person
A sibling to Writing the Work, this workshop uses the same centering practice to generate new creative writing rather than applications. Come with no plan.
Close Read: Critique Group
8 weeks · 6 participants · [online or in person]
A small critique circle where each participant receives one full hour that belongs entirely to their work. We read together through three channels: the analytical (form and structure), the contextual (art histories and conversations), and the epistemological (what the sensing body, lived experience, and association bring forward).
The first week builds shared tools for critique and constructive feedback; weeks two through seven center one artist each; the final week is open office hours. A rotating note-taker means everyone leaves with written feedback.
Close Read is for artists who want more than feedback: people curious about one another's practices and hungry for more ways of reading and discussing art in community. Past Writing the Work participants are guaranteed a seat, first come, first served. Everyone else applies.
Sounding Out
Community gathering · drop-in
A participatory gathering on voice, sound, and liberation. In the first half, we read aloud together from a collection of texts and images I gather for each session. In the second half, we form a circle and build a shared sonic environment: each person offers a passage that stayed with them, or a sound of their own, and a looper layers each offering onto the next until the room is singing with itself.
No experience is needed, only a willingness to listen and be heard. Reading materials are photocopied and free to take home. Sounding Out began at The Kitchen and took shape through my residency at Synth Library NYC, which became a catalyst for the series. It continues to travel to partner spaces around the city.
